1984 Little Harbor 44 Aft Cockpit
SURPRISE has been impeccably maintained at Dodson Boatyard for almost two decades by a owners who have regularly asked for updates and always done the proper maintenance for such a fine vessel. As a result, between the high capabilities of the yard and the owners' great affection for this vessel, SURPRISE is a turnkey option.
Little Harbor 44's, particularly the aft cockpit, have an almost cult-like following. The 44 AC checks all the boxes - drop dead gorgeous, totally functional in port and at sea, exceptional sea kindliness, robust construction and exquisite finish levels, and a great turn of speed to beet.
SURPRISE has many advantages - replaced teak decking in excellent condition, a newer Yanmar engine, recent hull paint, fully painted mast and boom, etc. etc. Her owners have reluctantly placed SURPRISE on the market.

INTERIOR:
SURPRISE has the standard LH 44 AC interior, with the gorgeous varnished teak interior woodwork one expects to find in all Little Harbors.
She has two private staterooms - one forward, and one aft and to port. Both have generous storage and plenty of elbow room. The forward cabin has a large berth and exceptional storage, with typical Little Harbor curved teak joinery. The aft cabin has a large amount of "elbow room", more than ample storage, and a berth which can act as two twins or, with a small filler in place, be a sizable double.
The forward head has access from both the salon and the forward cabin, and is a large compartment with a shower, vanity, sink and toilet. The aft cabin has its own toilet cleverly tucked into a small seat that has a hinged top.
The salon is large and commodious - with a u-shaped curved-back settee to starboard. The fixed table provides a handy and always available dining or gaming surface. There is a starboard facing center line settee with backrest providing additional seating at the table. The engine is located under this bench seat, which hinges up in its entirety to allow exceptional access to the engine.
To port is an additional settee which also makes an excellent sea-berth. The nav station is large and comfortable, aft facing, and at the aft end of the port settee. The electrical panel, additional nav instruments and radios are located at the nav station.
Aft of the nav station is the aft cabin - providing a large quarter berth which can be configured for use as a double or two singles.
Opposite the aft cabin is the galley to Starboard. This is a large, proper sea galley, with a u-shaped configuration. The galley features a three burner stove with one, double stainless steel sinks, a large icebox with cold plate refrigeration and a microwave.
Ventilation is excellent with 6 hatches, four dorade boxes with cowl vents, and many opening ports.
Storage and access throughout is excellent with numerous drawers and lockers in all regions of the interior. No space was left without purposeful utility.
COCKPIT:
The cockpit is a traditional shape with large seats port and starboard and an area aft of the wheel for the helm person. There is a large centerline table forward of the helm with two drop leaves port and starboard - excellent for dining al-fresco.
Primary and secondary winches are in the right location for grinding from inside the cockpit. There are also two halyard and reefing winches on the cabin top, and the centerboard enclosed winch is located here as well. The companionway is recessed, with solid raised-panel teak hatch boards.
At the binacle one finds the engine controls panel, the plotter, the autopilot control, and the compass under a stainless cover.
There are two deep cockpit lockers, one shallow one (above the quarter berth), storage cubbies, and two opening coaming storage areas aft. Access to the rudder post for emergency steering is under a small hinged hatch aft. There is a dedicated propane locker, drained overboard.
A dodger and bimini provide protection from the sun and rain.

The hull was painted flag blue in 2019 by Dodson Boatyard.
