Commissioned by members of the New York Yacht Club and designed and built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, the New York 30’s were launched in 1905 and quickly became the most significant and beloved one-design class in the history of the New York Yacht Club.
Their impact on the yachting world has been extensive and the individual histories of each yacht, remarkable. Today many continue their racing careers throughout New England and the Mediterranean.
NY-30 #12 ROWDY was completely rebuilt in 2011-2014 in Bristol, RI to the highest yacht standard. She has been faithfully restored to original Herreshoff specifications and configurations and is now as strong or stronger then when originally launched.
The restoration included the replacement of 95% of the frames and floor timbers, all deck beams and deck, a complete new cabin house, new hatches, a complete new interior to the layout of 1905, and new rig. (gaff rig design of 1905 but with the improved spar design of 1917), Further improvements include hollow spars and diesel engine installation.
All fasteners in ROWDY are new Silicon Bronze. All wood used in the restoration is as specified in the original Herreshoff scantlings with the exception of adding ¼ Okoume Plywood to the decks for strength, water tightness and longevity.
ROWDY is currently stored indoors and ready for commissioning. A full survey and detailed description of the rebuild are available upon request. Shipping to Europe available.
